Equinox Esports to offer coaching, academics for aspiring esports athletes through NPA

OKLAHOMA CITY Jan. 26, 2020 – Oklahoma City’s local multimillion-dollar esports startup Equinox Esports is launching its growth-oriented academic venture for aspiring esports athletes and professionals this spring.

The NOX Performance Academy (NPA) will focus on holistic esports athlete development in a variety of video game titles on both PC and console systems and will offer individualized and team-oriented training. Focus areas of curriculum will include micro and macro in-game mechanics and concepts, teamwork and communication, mental and physical well-being and big-picture focus (career paths within the esports industry and personal development). The program is open to anyone ages 13 (with parental consent) and up, with personalized packages and group rates available. NPA packages will be offered online and in-person, when safe to do so, by Equinox staff and outsourced coaches, when applicable.

“We wanted to provide a unique service to Oklahoma and the Midwest outside of our competing professional teams to help grow the local esports scene here in Oklahoma and really build that next generation of esports athletes and professionals,” said David Hanan, Ph.D., vice president of operations for Equinox. “We want to bridge the gap between education and esports in a professional and formal way, because there are so many options out there that it’s easy to get lost in the possibilities. This isn’t going to be a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all program; we assess and tailor everything we offer to the individual or team we’re working with, and we have the talent on staff to do just that.”

The program also offers long-term development plans with customized points of focus, performance analysis and holistic insight to become a more balanced and effective esports athlete or content creator. These will be tailor-made to each individual, focusing on their specific needs and goals. Each plan will also contain holistic elements as Equinox strives to redefine how society thinks about the modern esports athlete, taking physical and mental health as a top priority.

“We don’t just want to offer in-game performance coaching here at Equinox, we want to help fundamentally redefine what it means to be an esports athlete,” said Connor Knudsen, director of competition for Equinox. “With a holistic focus on both mental and physical health and wellness, we seek to facilitate meaningful growth in all of the individuals we work with. These same principles apply to our professional players, and we are excited to bring this mindset to those in the NPA as well.”

Prices for the NOX Performance Academy packages will vary depending on needs identified in initial assessments. For more information about NPA, contact David Hanan at david@equinox.team or Connor Knudsen at connor@equinox.team or call 405-254-6525.
